Politicians should read, heed opinions
Editor, the Record:
The Pocono Record said it all in a recent editorial: "What separates the United States from terrorists ought to be this country's long-standing reverence for personal freedom, a consistent championing of the rule of law and a respect for human rights and dignity." What also separates us from dictators and despots is the freedom of the press and the right of each human being to think for themselves, and not be called traitors or perverts. The Pocono Record and all other newspapers, which offer the reader the opportunity to print their opinions, are to be congratulated and appreciated. The next best thing to voting is the opinion column or editorial page, where people can complain, compliment or suggest. It is truly the voice of the people.
It is a shame that more politicians and state officials do not read these opinions and take action on all the constructive suggestions and correct all the injustices that occur. The opinion and editorial page should be required reading for all politicians. And a question worth asking of all potential candidates running for office.
