Column showed fear of losing abortion rights

Editor, the Record:

Re: McCain would wage all-out war on Roe vs. Wade:

Robin Blumner certainly is in a panic, isn't she? This column would be almost funny if it wasn't for the fact that some people will believe the typical trust-the-facts, leave-out-the-facts rhetoric that has deceived them for so long. Here's a fact: the aging pro-abortion lobby is worried, all right, but it's not necessarily John McCain they should fear. The pro-life crowd is getting younger all the time, led by bold survivors who take it quite personally that a third of their generation is missing. More facts: the annual CBS News opinion poll on the legality of abortion offers these choices:

1. Abortion should be permitted in all cases.

2. Permitted, but with reater restrictions

3. Only permitted in cases of rape, incest, or to save the mother's life.

4. only to save the mother's life.

5. Never permitted.

For the last three years, 70 percent of people chose answers 2 to 5, which means 70 percent of Americans disagree with Roe vs. Wade. Back to Ms. Blummer's column: "We are on the cusp of losing the right to control our bodies . . ." What a lame euphemism! Substitute "Kill our unborn children" for "control our bodies" and read the sentence again.

She also complains of the Mexico City Policy, which stopped millions of our tax dollars from promoting abortion in foreign countries. Do we really want to pay for say, forced abortions aiding China's one-child policy?

Concerning abstinence vs. sex education, it seems to me that the former doesn't get a fair shake while no one criticizes the failure of the latter. Considering the x-rated culture and, too often, poor parental examples that surround our children, abstinence education seems the scapegoat here.

We are better than this. Get the facts.
