Letter to the Editor

Republican's warning just rings hollow

Editor, the Record:

A March 19 letter by a Republican Party loyalist asked Republicans not to register Democratic.

This administration of the rich uses lies and dirty tricks while claiming to represent the religious right. They demonstrate that it is OK to lie and compromise moral standards to achieve victory. These are minor actions and untruths compared to what we will see once the Republican attack machine gears up for the general election.

Democrats have proven their concern for all Americans. History shows that every progressive legislation we have came from the Democratic Party: Security, the GI Bill, Medicare and Medicaid, public education, child labor laws, voting rights, civil rights, student loans, programs for women, children, seniors, minimum wage, workplace safety regulations, etc.

Republican Party accomplishments benefit corporations and the very wealthy. Of course this creates a problem: who will vote a party that represents only 4 percent of the population? We have seen their pattern of lies, dirty tricks and smoke screens.

It used to be decisive issues such as race and religion. As Americans became more united, the Republicans switched to gun control as their fear issue. When voters wised up, it became homosexuality and abortion.

None of these issues affect the financial status of those at the top, but they do trick millions of the poor and middle class into voting against themselves and their families.

The Republican Party uses such people to gain votes, but they have never done anything positive for workers.

The party that claims to be pro-life sends young people to die and be permanently injured in Iraq, claims to want less government intervention, but fights to legislate what rights a woman has with her own body. They claim to be moral. This administration is so full of corruption and scandals, it has become the norm.
