Deadline to Register

The deadline to register to vote is 30 days prior to the election. If your application is received too late, it will be processed for the next election.

Primary Deadline: MONDAY, MARCH 24, 2008

General Election Deadline: MONDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2008

Who is eligible to vote

Individuals applying to register to vote must be:

A citizen of the United States for at least one month before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
A resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which the individual desires to register and vote for at least 30 days before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
At least 18 years of age on or before the day of the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.

* BY MAIL in one of two ways:

1. Download the voter registration application from the Department of State at: www.dos.state.pa.us/voting/lib/voting/02_voter_registration_applications/ onlinevoterregformblank.pdf

2. Obtain a state or federal voter information mail application. The secretary of state and all county registration commissions supply voter registration mail applications to all persons who request them, including candidates, political parties and political bodies and other federal, state and municipal offices.

* APPLY AT DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION photo license center when you obtain or update your driver's license.

* APPLY AT A GOVERNMENT AGENCY. Clients of these government agencies may apply to register to vote at:

1. State offices the provide public assistance and services to persons with disabilities

2. Armed Forces Recruitment Centers

3. County Clerk of Orphan's Court offices, including the Marriage License Bureau

4. Area Agencies on Aging

5. Centers for Independent Living

6. County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Offices

7. Student disability services offices of the State System of Higher Education

8. Offices of Special Education

9. ADA Complementary Paratransit offices

Changing Party

Pennsylvania has a closed primary, meaning only voters registered with a particular party can vote in that party's primary. To change your party ahead of the April 22, 2008, primary, follow the same procedures for new registrations outlined above. On the registration form, check off the box for "Change of Party," and indicate your new party.

Changing Name/Address

To change your address or name, follow the same procedures for new registrations. On the registration form, check off the box for "Change of Address" and/or "Change of Name," along with the new information.
